Before we judge angus, I think we have to rememember that this prostitute probably made up half of the story, and the papers no doubt made up the other half. she clearly did it for her 5 minutes of fame, and no one has a clue who she is or where she is now, and angus is just as successful as ever. it was good of angus to take all of the nasty things they said, but you could tell he was feeling a bit hopeless and angry by the end. i felt sorry for him.

I think it's a shame Angus got sacked / left; I thought the scandal it made it even funnier. The idea was that political parties strive to enforce ideals they don't wholly believe in. They do this firstly to distinguish themselves from the "pack" so to speak. But also because logically over time, say 2 opposing parties (right and left), would reach a consensus on all issues. If you keep moving forward and realize when you're wrong, then adapt your strategy accordingly, you reach this equilibrium. But at that point you become a dictatorship. The problem with dictatorships is mutation.

I've read that Angus was preventing certain things from being discussed during writers' meetings and show prep. In other words, Hislop or Merton (can't recall which) claim he was trying to stop some unrelated events from being discussed on the show b/c it would be too easy for the others to link it with his scandal. I'd love to know if that's true or not. If it were, it puts their harshness in a different light. Either way, it's a shame the show couldn't continue as it was.
