I am very careful who they see while they are growing up since I don't want them thinking it's OK to walk up to any human. (Not all humans are nice to deer.....especially once they sprout big antlers.) But I am the mom and they don't forget that when they grow up. They do run when they see strangers and that keeps them safe. I'm just grateful for the donation of this video camera so I can show people the 'behind the scenes' activities here.

Fawns are hard to raise. They are very labor intensive and we have to keep them a long time compared to other species. This also makes them the most expensive to raise. Seeing them free and happy is the reward for all the hard work and expense. Obviously, I still haul water buckets and buy feed even after release. So it's not 'over'. But it's SO worth it to see them all doing so well.
