good video mate, was wondering if you could help me. im brewing my first beer at the moment and i want to work out the % alcohol. my instructions say, calculate original sugar plus added sugar less final sugar( all per gallon or per litre). i dont really understand that. i am using the syrup cans for this beer, and added 1KG of sugar. be greatfull if you could help me out. thanks in advance

What ever works best for you do it that way. Cheers!!

I just brewed a Munton's light beer and looking forward to drinking it. I do think adding hot water to DME works better than adding DME to hot water. To avoid clumping I use a plastic container and rinse off any residual DME in the hot wert. Cheers!

You can still have high alcohol at six gallons by adding more dextrose or dry malt extract. Cool that you are trying different ways to make it.
By: Piantini. on 19 Sep 08, 18:31:45
Or you can do 5 gallons like i do to kick the alcohol level & taste to the roof!. Blow off pipe is great when brewing high gravity beers. The least you need is your lid blowing off and leaving a mess all around.

Thanks Brian! I don't drink a lot of beer, but it is much cheaper making it than buying it at the store. You should try making some. I'm sure you won't be disappointed.
By: grandplans. on 04 Sep 08, 03:46:44
that looked really cool. I can imagine in the long run, if you drink a lot of beer, making it yourself, you can save money. I should give it a try.

It might seem cooler to do it all but even the pros say that all grain is not superior. It is defintily five times longer. Mieses2pieces made my first stout following your directions. And, it tasted excellent, but I might try your recipe since three beers did not give me the buzz I was looking for. Even Gomer Pyle could follow your instructions, thanks.

Then I would just use tap water. Which I do!!
By: mieses2pieces. on 07 Aug 08, 22:40:40
It's always nice to stock up on supplies. No, I haven't heard of the stuff before. If it's not too much money give it a try and see if it's worth the money.
By: stevie301271. on 07 Aug 08, 11:46:15
PS i tried bottled water last time and even though it was good its not as good i think as the taste of beer when the water is from the tap. CYA

Hi George its been a while since i last left a message, too much beer to drink lol just purchased another 2 tins of lager and 6 packs of DME so i dont run out lol, it is just to ask if you have heard of anyone useing Muntons beer kit enhancer and if its any good.thanks George LATER
By: mieses2pieces. on 03 Aug 08, 13:47:59
No, if you watch the video again you will see how it's done. I don't mean to sound rude, that's not my intention. If you're going to make homebrew from a kit like I do I just want you to do it right so your beer will turn out like it should. Then you should watch my video "How I bottle homebrew now." Good luck!!
By: ZackEads01. on 03 Aug 08, 06:11:45
oh, so you heat it to 80 and then add yeast and then wait for like 2 weeks or whatever and thats that?
By: mieses2pieces. on 02 Aug 08, 11:16:31
5 times nicer?? BULLSHIT!!!
By: euroguy71. on 02 Aug 08, 07:45:00
Guys..i done 2 extracts..turned out ok..and immediately went to All Grain..The Difference is huge..so much nicer...and you don't need any extra equipment really..it all can be done with extract equipment..I really advise checking out a few Youtube Allgrain brewing Vids...I swear it tast at least 5 times nicer...I promise you won't regret it...
By: mieses2pieces. on 01 Aug 08, 20:15:01
I don't. It doesn't need heated.
By: ZackEads01. on 01 Aug 08, 14:14:20
How do you keep your brew heated?
By: mieses2pieces. on 15 Jul 08, 01:56:54
How do you do a secondary fermentation? It's something new to me. DME is much better! It's the only way I make it now.
By: BorisDay. on 14 Jul 08, 18:39:15
I've been reading online and secondary fermentation is highly recommended. Apparently it clears the beer more effectively and makes it taste better?? Will have to see. For my next brew i'm defs going to use DME as I hear this also really enhances the flavour...

I've never used a blow off pipe. I just watched a video to see what it was. You must be overfilling your bucket. What you need todo is measure out six gallons and put it into your bucket and mark on the bucket the six gallon mark. Make sure you don't go over that on your next batch and it shouldn't overflow into your airlock. Have at least a seven gallon bucket. Why are you doing a secondary fermentation? That's something I've never done. I'm glad you are enjoying your homebrewing!!
